The topic was Adaptive and alterative activities of entrepreneurial intermediaries in transitional economies: A study of academic incubators in India
Abstract of the talk given below
We examine academic incubators in India as an example of an entrepreneurial intermediary in a transitional economy and document activities they have undertaken to address their unique context. Cast within institutional theory, our study enables us to separate nonstandard activities from the standard activities that address market failure highlighted in the extant incubator literature. Thus, we document how the incubators undertook adaptive activities to overcome the cultural inertia against entrepreneurship, and alterative activities that enabled them to participate in the changes in a transitional economy. The broader conception of environment-incubator relations used here enables us to portray incubators as participants in the transition of the economy.
