Seminar on “The Role of Theory in Strategic Management Research”
By: Prof. Rajaram Veliyath – Professor, Associate Dean of Research & Graduate Programs, Kennesaw State University.
Abstract of the Talk: Prof Rajaram discussed some of the major theories like Agency Theory, Institutional Theory, Resource Dependence Theory, The Resource-based View, Stewardship Theory, and Information Processing Theory, that have been used in SM research.
He touched upon the major streams of SM research that have used these theoretical foundations and the broad set of findings that have emerged. He then elaborated on the possible extensions of these bodies of work to emerging market contexts like India (that are very different and rich in data sources), along with the potential areas of divergence in findings and implications that might emerge.
