His book `The Black Economy in India&#8217;, published by Penguin has broken new ground in thinking about the Indian Economy and its development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4199.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-629 alignleft\" alt=\"IMG_4199\" src=\"http:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4199-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4199-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4199-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4199-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Summary of the talk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India\u2019s black economy is roughly estimated to be 50% of GDP &#8211; generating at current prices in 2014-15, about Rs.65 lakh crore or $1 trillion. It is so extensive because it is generated in every sector and economic activity and all the elite sections of society are involved in it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Taxes not collected at current rates of taxes would amount to about Rs.26 lakh<a href=\"http:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4241.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-630 alignright\" alt=\"IMG_4241\" src=\"http:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4241-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4241-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4241-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/researchblog.iimk.ac.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMG_4241-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> crore in 2014-15. Thus, the Union budget instead of showing a Fiscal Deficit could have shown a surplus of Rs.20 lakh crore. If this amount could be collected, there would be enough money for employment generation, education, health and infrastructure, like, roads and power.
